At a special launch event in New York Sonos has just made the announcement a lot of people were waiting for, a new Sonos with built in Alexa!

Meet Sonos One.

The Sonos One is very similar to the existing Play One however it contains six far-field microphones to allow you to directly use Alexa.  Initially it will only support Alexa with others ‘in the pipeline’, hopefully Siri, Google Assistant and Cortana. Apple AirPlay 2 is also coming some time in 2018.

One other key difference between Play One and Sonos One is the button on the top, this has been redesigned. It now also features a circle that lights up when Alexa is listening.

The new Sonos seamlessly connects to any existing Sonos setups and works with the existing app.

Along with the product announcement is the free software announcement that finally Sonos users will be able to use Alexa through Amazon Echo or Echo Dot. ‘Alexa play Jazz in the kitchen’.

Pre-order from 4th October with delivery on 24th October 2017.

It will cost £199 – the same price as an existing Play 1, making it very competitive.

PS. You can buy new Sonos products from Amazon UK, starting at around £100.

worth noting that it will not pair with an existing play1 speaker
so if you have a stereo pair you would have to replace both speakers.
