Eufy, one of the Anker family brands, has just announced an exciting smart home security system. One they claim will redefine home security with A.I.

B7622AC1-E6DB-4D04-AC1E-1C5D2B8992C0

The EverCam cameras are 100% wire free and are powered by a supercharged Anker battery that will last a year from one charge! Thanks to Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0, the camera can fully charge in under 3 hours despite the capacity.

As the cameras are wire free they have a build in theft protection that brick the cameras if a theft is detected.

However the most interesting part is the learning A.I. that recognises friends and family. It the only triggers an alert if it detects a stranger or a suspicious activity.

This in theory means no more annoying alerts from animals, clouds or even your regular cleaner!

That’s not all, the cameras contain a smart motion detection chipset (RTOS). This enables the cameras to go to sleep automatically if there is no motion and wake up in half a second after motion is detected. This is how the battery can last so long.

The system requires it’s own hub that communicates to the cameras via Sub-1Ghz, connecting to WiFi when video is recorded.

The hub features local storage (SD or USB) all footage is encrypted using AES-128 to ensure even if physically stolen the footage cannot be viewed. If it detects it is being stolen or if there is an intruder a built in 100 dB siren will sound!

One of the smartest hub features is that it also contains a powerful backup battery. Allowing it to connect to the camera without power for 7 days!

As well as all these innovative features it packs all the standard features too:

  • Weatherproof
  • 130° Viewing angle
  • HD 1080P
  • Night vision
  • 2-Way audio

EverCam is live now on  to Kickstarter!

Ring, the smart doorbell and security company, has just updated their privacy policy. Effective from 19th December 2017.

Lurking in it we found something interesting:

“Where permitted by applicable law, you may choose to use additional functionality in your Ring product that, through video data from your device, can recognize facial characteristics of familiar visitors.”

This strongly suggests to us that a facial recognition software update is in development and could be released soon. The update even gives an example of how the feature will work, allowing different notifications for family, friends or strangers.

“For example, you may want to receive different notifications from your Ring Doorbell depending on whether a visitor is a stranger or a member of your household. If you choose to activate this feature, we obtain certain facial feature information about the visitors you ask your Ring product to recognize. We require your explicit consent before you can take advantage of this feature.”

This is very exciting as adds an entirely new level of security to an already outstanding product.

As it has been added to the global privacy policy we are optimistic this will be released to all products, not just the Ring Pro or Ring 2.

We cannot help but feel this is a direct response to the recently announced Nest Hello. Nests first move into the smart doorbell space. Nest Hello is being launched with facial recognition as standard and is due to be released in early 2018.

What do you think of this exciting development?

We have asked Ring for a comment and will update if we receive one. Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook or Twitter for the latest updates.
