A cafe owner scared away a burglar despite being on holiday 4,000 miles away! Thanks to Ring’s Security cameras.

Jamie Foster, 34 was on holiday in the Dominican Republic when he received a notification on his phone.

His instant reaction was to shout at his phone and thanks to the two way audio feature he scared away the burglar! As well as scaring a few fellow passengers who were with him on a coach at the time.

Mr Foster commented:

“I received a notification about movement from my Ring Camera system at the cafe. I managed to shout at him to try and make sure he left”

The burglar who looked a little confused escaped taking only £50 – all thanks to their Ring camera!

Ring, the video doorbell experts, much anticipated whole house alarm system will go on sale in the USA on July 4th 2018.

The product launch was delayed by legal disputes with alarm giant ADT over the technology. We assume Rings acquisition by Amazon assisted with the situation.

Ring Alarms base package includes a base station, range extender, door sensor and motion sensor. It is priced at $199 / £150.

Ring Alarm – Home Security System

Additional components, that most likely will be needed to cover anything other than a flat, are available as additional purchases. These range from $20 – $30 / £15 – £25.

In the USA they have an option of a monitored alarm for a very cost effective $10 / £8 a month.

Ring alarm will connect to existing products, for example Ring video doorbell and Ring flood lights. It’s not known if it will integrate into all generations of products, for example Ring Video Doorbell 1.

When Ring will release the alarm in the UK is not currently known. However based on Rings previous release strategy for the U.K. we don’t expect it soon.

We have asked Ring for a comment on the UK and will update if we receive one.

Ring, the Video Doorbell market leader, announced an all-encompassing home alarm system.

Yes, last week Nest also announced one, as well as its doorbell.  It seems Nest & Ring are going head to head!

The Ring alarm system will comprise of a base station, keypad, motion detector, door/window sensors and a Ring range extender.

Ring Alarm – Home Security System

If you are an existing Ring user you will know exactly why you need the range extender – their tech needs a strong signal to work effectively. It will also have a passive infrared sensor.

The new system will work with existing Ring tech and be integrated into the existing app. This does mean you will also need the Ring subscription to benefit from cloud recording. As yet no update on how this impacts the subscription price. At present this is very cheap at only £2.50 per camera per month or £8 per month for unlimited cameras!

The big difference between the Ring system and the one Nest announced is the price, Ring Alarm system will cost £150~. Making it a much more affordable solution when compared to Nest or existing home security systems.

The Ring Home Alarm system will go on pre-sale later this month in the USA, no dates for UK, yet.
